A BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE...
A BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE...
By Bernard Bujold -
Justin Trudeau's love affair with the Canadian government cottage at Harrington Lake dates back to his childhood, with his father Pierre E. Trudeau.
The Harrington Lake residence was the centre of controversy this week as Prime Minister Trudeau was criticized for his decision to join his family there for the Easter break (April 13, 2020), despite the fact that public health officials in Quebec asked Ontario residents not to visit their country homes across the provincial border in the midst of a coronavirus crisis.
The 2.1-hectare property (cottage) consists of four buildings: the main house, the staff house, the guest house for distinguished guests and a house for guests deemed less important . The property recently required $8.6 million in renovations, according to the National Capital Commission (NCC).
For Justin Trudeau, the Harrington Lake residence is of particular importance, and in his memoirs, published in 2014, he detailed the childhood excursions he undertook there with his brothers and father.
