THE MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS and THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL

THE MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS and THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL
By Bernard Bujold
An excellent analysis of the current situation at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is published in Le Devoir (Thursday, August 13, 2020) and signed by Odile Tremblay. However, Odile should have added to her text that this sad war resembles in many ways another war that we are both familiar with, that of the Montreal World Film Festival and Serge Losique.
The two institutions have their differences, but the inspiration and global reach of Serge Losique and Nathalie Bondil, in their respective fields, meant that the success of their institutions was directly related to their person and their leadership.
We are all aware of the long agony and death of the World Film Festival, and while the future of the museum is still being questioned, we should not be under any illusions: "No institution exists without a leader, and the success of any organization is the extension of the leader".
We'll have to see what happens next, but I'm very worried.
Obviously, death does not come immediately and "sickly" survival can last several years, but the agony of an institution always begins with the departure of an inspiring leader.
Hopefully the director of the Museum, Nathalie Bondil, will resurrect, wishes for those who believe in the concept of resurrection?
To be continued!
