THE ART OF MODERN PHOTOGRAPHY IN 2018

THE ART OF MODERN PHOTOGRAPHY IN 2018 -
By Bernard Bujold
The world of photography has changed a lot in recent years. I often have discussions with photographer friends about our beautiful era and the new techniques of the day... Many of us were convinced in the early 2000s that the digital photo market would go nowhere and that it was just a gadget!
In the end, almost 20 years later, digital photography is the only thing that exists in the world of image, photo as video (cinema and television). It's a new society. Every individual now has a camera with his phone. Moreover we do not say anymore: "take a picture" but "create an image"! The world has never been more virtual and "universal" than with Instagram, Facebook, etc.
In photography it is not the camera but the moment! The lightness of the phones makes it the perfect tool. It must be understood that photography is managing light. The device must have a minimum of technology but the important thing is to manage the light. The worst enemy of the photographer is also the weight.
Of course, if I was still a press photographer, I would use a big camera to protect my territory and identify myself as a photographer in the event. With an iPhone you have the look of a tourist... For the respect, the big camera still has its place today in the press conferences but, not for the result of the photos. The role of the big camera is the projected image, a kind of "costume" for the press photographer.
But even with big devices, the technology is changing with the upcoming end of the DSLR and the arrival of Mirrorless.
In closing, personally I love digital because geographical boundaries no longer exist. I can take pictures in my living room and on the other side of the world we can see them in the second. Even Donald, my distant idol, can look at my photos...
We are far from the time of DIRECT FILM and pre-paid envelopes to receive the development of the film a week later!

WORLD PRESS PHOTO MONTREAL EXHIBITION 2018 -
by Bernard Bujold -
The 13th edition of World Press Photo Montreal presents a total of 150 images selected worldwide by the jury and displayed at Marché Bonsecours in Old Montreal.
There is some form of violence in some images, but overall, the pictures provide a varied and humane view of world news in 2017 as seen by press photographers. We also note in the margins of the main exhibition, special collaborations including RDI, La Presse +, Oxfam Quebec, Planet + and Photos in the street.
The WORLD PRESS 2018 exhibition is presented in Montreal from August 29 to September 30, 2018.

ITALIAN MUSIC - SUMMER 2018

ITALIAN MUSIC - SUMMER 2018 -
By Bernard Bujold-
Quebec-born Italian singer Marco Calliari has set up an innovative project by exporting his shows directly to the land of his ancestors. Calliari is currently on tour in Italy to present a series of twelve shows, in three provinces of the country, from August 23 to September 3, 2018. This project has been in existence for some ten years now and is intended as a cultural exchange, as the Calliari production company also invites Italian artists to Quebec, which it produces in various theaters. We can follow Marco Calliari's current trip to Italy on his Instagram and Facebook pages.
Christyna Pelletier, well known in Montreal at the time of her former restaurant SOUPÇON COCHON, accompanies the singer as director of development and Marco's personal companion!

MOVIES FROM THE 2018 MONTREAL WORLD FILM FESTIVAL

MOVIES FROM THE 2018 MONTREAL WORLD FILM FESTIVAL -
by Bernard Bujold-
The number of films registered in the 2018 FFM is much smaller than in the beautiful years of the festival but the quality of the films is far from diminished! Despite the lack of resources of the organizers of the FFM, the filmmakers who are there brought films of high quality. As an example the Mia Tate's film "CAMPESINO", a film about the lives of Cuban farmers.
This film is based on three elements:
1- the documentary film which is in itself very well done according to the art of documentary;
2- the story of the film that introduces us to this American amateur photographer, Carl Oelerich, who visits the same Cuban village every year since 2002;
3- the history of these Cuban farmers still living according to the ancient customs dating from the Castro Cuban Revolution in January 1959.
Mia Tate's film has been shown at the FFM, but there is every reason to believe that it will become a TV documentary since its form is perfect for television, like PBS.
In conclusion: the 2018 FFM is much smaller than might be expected, but the quality of the films and the efforts of the filmmakers present at the event remain exceptional.

PAUL MANAFORT AND THE VERDICT

PAUL MANAFORT VERDICT
By Bernard Bujold -
One Manafort juror revealed in an interview to FOX NEWS that one lone holdout prevented Mueller team from winning conviction on all fraud counts.
But according to the juror “Mr. Manafort got caught breaking the law, and the paper trail is there, but he wouldn’t have gotten caught neither accused if Mueller team weren’t after President Trump. »
The prosecutors try to link Manafort to Russian collusion but the jury and the judge rejected this angle to look only at the financial fraud. "In fact, this should have been a tax audit and not a trial."
The juror added: "It was a very emotionally charged jury room, there were some tears with a group that didn’t included many “Republicans.” supporters... ".
However, this one juror who talked to FOX about the deliberation voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and she intends to vote for him again in 2020!

LIFE AND THE SEA - DREAM OR REALITY

LIFE AND THE SEA - DREAM OR REALITY -
By Bernard Bujold -
Is life a dream or a reality? This is a very theoretical question...
Personally, I like to think about this kind of existential question when I'm on vacation by the sea! The waves transform me into a contemplative person...
In our lives we all see often exceptional successes of which we are very proud, but also sometimes tragic tragedies; career opportunities missed or missed; honors (trophies) or humiliation (scandals); romantic loves or false hopes; but in final conclusion for each of our stories, the passage of time makes us forget and all our moments of life become anecdotes! If there is a reality to life, it is time that passes.
Conclusion: "We must take advantage of the now moment and never forget that everything is only a temporary reality... For this reason, youth is the greatest wealth of life!
Long live the sea and the now moments of summer 2018!
